A soldier returning from the war, after four long years witnessing death and destruction was asked by his family and friends; why he wakes up yelling his pyjamas wet with sweat, why his hands tremble at any given time, why he can’t stand loud noises and why, without warning, he displays erratic behaviour going off for long periods without telling anyone.
The soldier explained in this way, “If you didn’t go through it, there’s no words that can adequately describe it; if you were there, then no words are necessary.”
On this special day, Remembrance Day, we should never forget all the service men and women who returned from the past conflicts to the present time, and are still serving in far off lands, in the service of their country.
On November 11, the RSL Sub Branch will host a Remembrance Day commemoration at the Gloucester Memorial Park Cenotaph Clock Tower, commencing at 10:50am.
We invite all the Gloucester community to attend.
Lest we forget.
