On Thursday (November 2), the year five and six students took time out of their morning session for the interactive Schools Concert, as part of the national music Celebration Day.
The concert began with a welcome song the students could sing along to as the words where put up on the interactive whiteboard. Musicians from the SSO explained what each instrument in the orchestra was and how it sounded, each playing a quick piece with some sounding like birds from the Australian bush.
This was all part of preparing the students for the reading of the The Bush Concert; Taree author and illustrator, Helga Visser's picture book was set to classic to music, with the orchestra providing the sounds of all the bush birds.
“The performance of was very interactive and the students could sing along,” BPS teacher, Debbie Faull said.
“They really enjoyed it,” she said.
Over 650,000 school students across Australia took part in the concert, put on in collaboration with Music: Count Us In and The Arts Unit (NSW Department of Education).
