Over 250 athletes attended the two day carnival from Camden Haven, Kempsey, Old Bar, Port Macquarie, South West Rocks, Taree and Wauchope clubs. The weekend went off well, apart from the showery rain on Sunday, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the athletes.
Gloucester had 46 competitors with 29 finishing in the top 4 in selected events to progress to the regional carnival, to be held at Tamworth in February.
The club would like to thank the community for supporting this event. Each year the zone carnival is held by a different club, with 2010 the last time zone featured in Gloucester.
There were numerous outstanding results recorded by our athletes, with personal best times recorded in nearly every event. Emma Ashton was a standout for the weekend finishing 1st in the Javelin, 1500 metre, 3000m, and discus events. Harrison Clarke performed solid to gain a first in long jump, triple jump and a second in javelin. Amy Shultz won her discus event and finished second in javelin and discus.
The under 7 athletes, performed well with Bradley Higgins winning the 70m, 200m and second in the long jump. Lily Sansom jumped her way to second in the long jump. Justin Boorer finished second in the 200m. Brodie Baker finished second in the discus and third in shot put and long jump. The under 7 athletes don’t progress to regionals and were awarded medals on the weekend. Needless to say there were some pretty chuffed athletes roaming around the track displaying their medals proudly.
Other notable results include Ty Vumbaca and Cameron Watt battling it out in a very close 700m pack start, in the under 8 age group, they finished first and second respectively. Cameron also won his shot put event. Asher Baker finished on top in the under 9 Discus event. Gloucester athletes performed well in the walking events with Emily Beggs, Holly and Connor Anderson winning their age groups.
