A halfback, Joe was a member of seven premiership winning Gloucester teams from 1958 when he came into first grade to 1966 when he retired.
He also represented North Coast and was rated by the great English halfback Alex Murphy as he best half he played against when the team toured Australia in 1962. This was after the Great Britain/North Coast match at Lismore. Joe scored two tries against a team rated as one of the best to visit this country.
The hall of fame induction was held at the Wingham Services Club. Joe, Robert ‘Rocky’ Laurie from Wauchope, Wingham’s Jake Kennett and Lloyd Hudson from Kempsey were honoured.
Joe is the second Gloucester player in the hall of fame, following Kevin Everitt, who was inducted in 2016.
Joe recalled some of the epic clashes the Magpies had against Wingham in the 1960s.
