$4.89m redevelopment of St Clare's High at Taree

Construction is underway on a multi-million dollar upgrade and redevelopment of Taree’s St Clare High School.

Joining principal Peter Nicholls, assistant principal Phil Gibney, school captains Ruby McIntosh and Macabe Grass and vice-captains Jennifer Wesley and Rhys Hood, to mark the beginning of the construction phase of the project, federal member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said local company MCR Building would undertake the major capital works project.

Federal funding of $3,243,587 has been made available towards the $4.89-million project.

Dr Gillespie said the upgrade would include new open plan classroom and administration areas.

“This project is being jointly funded by the Australian Government funding through the Catholic Block Grant Authority, together with funds from the school community.

Dr Gillespie said the new facilities will ensure St Clare’s students continue to receive a great education.

“I understand this is the biggest capital upgrade St Clare’s High School will have seen for some considerable period of time, and I am sure that when complete, will be welcomed by students, teachers and the broader school community,” Dr Gillespie said.

Capital funding for State Government schools and non-government schools is delivered through separate funding mechanisms.

For non-government schools, funding is made available through the Commonwealth Capital Grants Program.

One of the features of the CGP has been its continuity since 1964. It has been a general source of capital funding for those non-government schools that serve the more disadvantaged communities and has ensured those schools can continue to provide facilities they may not have the capacity to fully self-fund.

For the non-government school sector, the CGP has become an essential component of Commonwealth support for their schools.
