Beaton Shield contested in Gloucester

On November 17 the Beaton Shield was contested, with eight participants at the Gloucester Croquet Club. 

Prior to commencement of play club president Brenda Pennicuik welcomed Shirley Beaton (sponsor of the event) and the players.

Shirley responded with a few words and thanked the players.

This was played as a handicapped singles competition with a two-life knock out.

Contestants and results were: Robyn Roberts 3-7, 7-4, 4-7. Cecily Mahoney 7-6, 3-7, 7-4, 4-7. Ashleigh Hickman 3-7, 4-7. Elynne Graham 6-7, 7-6, 2-7. Shirley Beaton 5-7, 6-7. Al Minis 7-5, 7-3, 5-7, 4-7. Yvonne Bagnall 7-3, 3-7, 7-2, 7-4, 7-4, 7-6, 4-7. Brenda Pennicuik 7-3, 7-3, 7-5, 6-7,7-4.

Brenda and Yvonne, with one loss each, had to play the finals. Brenda was the winner with Yvonne runner-up. Congratulations Brenda.

Among those who came to watch the play were Leah and Col Weismantel.

It was great to see Col back after a lengthy illness He even picked up his mallet for a social game. Dates to remember: December 3 for the Midi North Coast Christmas party - Gloucester being host club.

December 15 is our Christmas party and presentation of trophies. This will be the last game of the year.
