“I remember what it was like from my childhood and I want to bring that feeling back to Gloucester,” Donna-Maree Watt said.
Donna-Maree has been working on bringing back the infamous APEX Christmas Carnival with fellow enthusiasts Kieren Moore, Jodie House and Kate Platter.
All four of them grew up in Gloucester and went to the carnival as kids and they want the new generation to experience the fun they had.
Thanks to the support of the Gloucester Business Chamber, on Friday, December 8 from 5:30pm Church Street will be converted into a Christmas Carnival full activities and stalls.
“It’s about community spirit and bringing the community together,” Donna-Maree said.
There will be lots of free and inexpensive activities available which will make for an affordable event for everyone.
Lots of community groups are involved, the businesses on Church Street are encouraged to stay open late and any business in the 2422 postcode is welcome to set up a stall to help promote the business or sell products, without paying a stall fee.
Some of the activities that will be on offer are: a donut eating contest, a chocolate wheel, dunk the dill, a colouring-in competition, nerf target practice and a Santa sleigh race.
“Dig out your old billy carts and decorate them in Christmas theme for the race,” Donna-Maree encourages.
The Gloucester Advocate will also running its annual business Christmas window display competition, which will be judged during the carnival.
All businesses are encouraged to take part in the competition. If you’ve decorated your window and your business is located off of the main section of Church Street, please contact Gloucester Advocate’s sales representative, Tayla Williams at tayla.williams@fairfaxmedia.com.au or on 0438 467 236.
The overall business winner will receive $2000 value of advertising in the newspaper.
