With the onset of warmer weather and fire dangers set to rise, superintendent Baker said it is imperative that the public knows where to find vital information and advice.
“We’re facing a very real risk of bush fires in the months ahead, so it’s crucial that people remain vigilant, both where they live or where they may be visiting,” Superintendent Baker said.
“Bush fires can pose incredible danger for anyone not prepared or unaware of their surroundings, for example families camping, people away on holidays or anyone travelling in unfamiliar areas.”
He added that people travelling during the Christmas holiday period must know the fire danger ratings for each area they are visiting.
“Making a bush fire survival plan and discussing it with family is the first thing everyone should do,” Superintendent Baker said.
“Some days can be much more dangerous than others, so it is crucial that people to stay up to date and know how to access important information. This is particularly important on days of Total Fire Ban, where certain restrictions are in place.”
He encouraged residents to visit the NSW Rural Fire Service website or the Fires Near Me app for fire updates as well as local media.
“These valuable resources have been developed to help people stay safe this bush fire season. We recommend that everyone familiarises themselves with what’s available.”
Superintendent Baker added that the Bush Fire Information Line is an additional source of information and can be reached on 1800 679 737.
