Former Tasmanian resident Sarah Moses and her three-year-old son Jack were killed at their home in Betio, one of the largest cities of the Central Pacific Island of Kiribati.

Local media reported the Kiribati Police Service said a “tragic incident” happened about 5am local time on Saturday, December 9.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said Ms Moses was working in Tarawa, the capital of Kiribati, on an Australian aid funded project and was well-known to staff at the Australian High Commission in Tarawa.
Local media reported Ms Moses was the Director of the Kiribati Government’s Kiribati Institute of Technology.
Ms Moses had previously worked in Tasmania’s Treasury and Education Department.
Tasmania Department of Premier and Cabinet secretary Jenny Gale said Ms Moses was a loved and respected member in the state’s public service.
“This will come as shocking news to many in our community and our thoughts are with her family and her friends,” Ms Gale said.
Australian High Commissioner in Kiribati, Bruce Cowled, attended a memorial service for Ms Moses and Jack on December 11 to “acknowledge Sarah’s commitment and service to the people of Kiribati”.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing support to Ms Moses and her son’s family.
