The morning will include an Australia Day breakfast, a speech from paralympian swimmer Taylor Corry, award presentations and a citizenship ceremony.
Ms Corry is part of the Australia Day Ambassador Program designed to support the growth of Australia Day celebrations around the state.
And for the first time since Katheryn Smith has been involved with council, Gloucester is including a citizenship ceremony as part of the program.
“I think it’s a great addition to the day,” she said.
The MidCoast Council deputy mayor will be performing the ceremony with the assistance of Federal Member for Lyne, David Gillespie.
The day will also include the regular favourites, like the Best Dressed and Colouring-In Competition, Best Business window display, Project of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and the Pool Gala Evening
Things kick off at 8am with breakfast prepared by Gloucester’s Country Woman’s Association (CWA), Quota, Lions Club and Rotary Club available for a gold coin donation.
Australia Day program:
8am – Welcome to Country; flag raising and anthem; thanksgiving prayer
8:15am – Australia Day Breakfast
9am – Entertainment by Gloucester High School students
9:15am – Citizenship Ceremony
9:30am – Competition winners presentation
9.45am – Official welcome and keynote addresses from deputy mayor Katheryn Smith, Federal member David Gillespie and ambassador Taylor Corry.
10am Awards Presentations: Project of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Citizen of the Year
10.30 am Official Ceremony concludes
2pm until 7pm – Olympic Pool Gala Evening at Gloucester Swimming Pool: with free entry, a barbecue supplied by the Gloucester Rotary Club, a lolly drop and entertainment.
In case of wet weather the celebrations will be held at the Gloucester Recreation Centre.
