Part of the Gloucester Rotary Club’s Motorcycle Friendly Project, the motorcycle-only parking zone is located outside the Avon Valley Inn on Church Street.

Rotary’s Brian Beesley has been liaising with Midcoast Council since December 2016 to bring the motorcycle project to fruition.

“Working closely with Wendy Hughes from Gloucester’s Visitor Information Centre, we wanted to capitalise on Gloucester’s existing appeal to motorcycle riders.

“The town is a popular stopping point for riders looking for high quality services on their touring drives, as shown by the glittering machines seen parked on Church Street throughout the year,” he said. 

“Dedicated parking was a great place to start.”

“Main street businesses were approached for their approval and there was overwhelming support for the motorcycle-only parking zone. It only takes up one standard car space but it’s an important positive message to the motorcycle community that Gloucester appreciates their business,”Brian explained.

Wauchope declared itself the first NSW motorcycle friendly town in November 2016.

Gloucester’s actions are a further step towards the goal of becoming the second motorcycle-friendly town, particularly given the existing usage of Thunderbolts Way and The Bucketts Way.

The next steps include a new motorcycle touring brochure with suitable route suggestions, improved wayfinding signage, easy access to tyre services plus incentives to spend more and stay overnight.

Gloucester is already well-known for hosting the Motorcycle Expo in May each year plus it offers easy access to the National Motorcycle Museum at Nabiac.
