Rotary Club of Laurieton will host the 2018 Australia Day ceremony from 7.30am on January 26 where people are invited to enjoy a performance by the Camden Haven Concert Band and purchase an Aussie breakfast on the top of North Brother Mountain.
A flag raising ceremony and official program will take place from 8am.
Addresses will be made by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Mayor Peta Pinson, Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams, Australia Day Ambassador Liz Deep-Jones and Camden Haven High School captains.
“Australia Day is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate their country and culture, and reflect on what it means to live in the best country in the world,” said Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peta Pinson.
“I encourage everyone to get out and about, show your community spirit and join in the celebrations.”
People will have the opportunity to congratulate council’s Australia Day Award Recipients and the newest Australian Citizens as they complete their Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day 2018.
A free shuttle bus will be available to take people up the mountain at 6.45am and 7.20am from the Busways depot at Captain Cook Bicentennial Drive.
At 11am Lake Cathie Bowling and Recreation Club will host the traditional XXXX Tinnie Races on the boat ramp side of the lake.
After the races participants and spectators are invited to celebrate in style back at the club where prizes will be presented.
As part of the event there will be free face painting, a car show and shine, pie eating competition, tug of war, a raffle and live music at the back of the club located at 45 Evans Street.
People can collect an entry form for the tinnie races at the Lake Cathie Bowling Club.
On Saturday, January 27 Kew Country Club will host an event from 11am.
There will be the annual Dry-Boat Race, live entertainment, an interactive multicultural showcase, a gumboot throwing challenge, plenty of games and a carnival of inflatable rides.
People can join in the Dry-Boat Race as a charity racing team for $20 or as a corporate racing team for $50. The funds are pooled and donated to the winning team’s nominated charity. To register call 02 6585 3373.
Special alcohol restrictions apply in all Port Macquarie-Hastings parks and beaches from sunset January 25 to sunrise on January 27.
