The brigade is a volunteer organisation that assists the RFS by providing meals, snacks and drinks during times of fire.
Store manager Tina Chown said the team is proud to support such a vital service to the region.
“The catering brigade is a charity that is necessary in times of crisis but is humble in recognition for the amazing work they do,” she said.
“With just a small group of volunteers, they cook and serve meals and look after the welfare of our volunteer firefighters. It can last several days at a time and include large groups of firefighters from other areas who have come to assist battling a blaze.
“We chose this charity because it is dedicated to our emergency services and has an important role in the safety of our community.”
Brigade president Lorraine Adams greatly appreciated the boost to its fundraising efforts.
“As a volunteer group, we fund the support of local smaller fires and we rely on community fundraising,” she said.
“We’re going to use the donation to buy a new barbecue, which will be a great help to our service.”
The Gloucester Rural Fire Service Catering Brigade is on call all year round but especially needs volunteers during bushfire season, October to March, each year. To volunteer contact Ms Adams on 6558 1433.
Additional funding was donated to the Gloucester Prostate Cancer Support Group, Gloucester Soccer Club and Gloucester Breast Cancer Support Group, who each received $253.85 from Lovey’s Grocers IGA Community Chest Program.
Gloucester Prostate Cancer Support Group will use funds to purchase petrol vouchers to support the costs of travel to Newcastle or Port Macquarie for treatment.
Gloucester Soccer Club is going to purchase of outdoor tables and chairs for its clubhouse.
Gloucester Breast Cancer Support Group will purchase petrol vouchers to help with the costs of travel for treatment, vouchers for groceries and meat, and school lunches when mothers and guardians are away for treatment.
Specially marked Community Chest products purchased at IGA Gloucester raise the funding for the program with a percentage of each product sold credited to the store’s Community Chest account.
Together with Lovey’s Grocers Rewards Program, local donations and sponsorships, and Community Chest funds, Lovey’s Grocers IGA Gloucester contributed more than $12,000 to the Gloucester community in 2017.
