If your garage shelves are stacked with half-filled paint tins, old motor oils, and batteries that have been there for years, the Mobile Community Recycling Trailer should be a welcome visitor.
The trailer will visit 11 different locations between now and December, collecting household quantities of unwanted gas bottles, paint, motor oils, car batteries, household batteries, fluoro globes and tubes, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers.
“These items are a problem for householders, not only because they can be dangerous if left around the home, but they can’t be placed in either the red or yellow kerbside bin,” waste health and regulatory services manager, John Cavanagh said.
“Some of the items can catch fire, react or explode under certain conditions, be corrosive or even toxic if they are not disposed of correctly.”
As well as accepting up to 20kg (or 20L) of problem waste per household, staff will be on hand at the mobile recycling trailer locations to provide advice on what can and can’t be recycled, and how residents can contribute to improving recycling rates across the MidCoast region.
Commercial waste cannot be accepted.
“We are committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, and everyone has a part to play.”
“This not only means keeping recyclables out of your red bin, but ensuring only recyclables are placed in the yellow bin.”
Hazardous waste items can be dropped off for free throughout the year at any of the region’s Community Recycling Centres (The Bucketts Way, Tuncurry and Gloucester).
Visit www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/waste for more information, CRC locations and opening hours.
But you may be able to save yourself the trip and take advantage of the Mobile Community Recycling Trailer.
