Manning Great Lakes Police have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on our roads.
Please slow down, police say. Make sure you drive to the road conditions. Allow extra travel time. Remember the posted speed limit is the maximum recommended speed limit in dry weather conditions.
Advice from police includes:
- Brake earlier and with less force that you would normally: This increases the stopping distance between you and the car in front of you and it lets the driver behind you know that you are slowing down.
- Turn off your cruise control: Using cruise control in the rain is extremely hazardous! If you aquaplane you may accelerate and lose control of your car.
- Turn on your headlights: This will help you to see and be seen.
- Don’t attempt to cross running water/creeks.
- Give trucks and buses extra distance: Buses and trucks can generate spray blinding vehicles behind them.
Police and emergency service warn drivers to never drive through flood waters.
