Men’s
The return to the rugby union front line of the Gloucester Cockies’ “old dogs”, Chris Marchant and Jamie “Emu” Andrews, provided the inspiration the club needed to bring about the downfall of last year’s finalists, the Manning River Ratz, at Taree Rugby Park on Saturday, April 7.

With No 8 Marchant and inside-back Andrews moving about between the forwards and back line, utilising their years of experience and know-how, the Cockies overcame the Ratz in an impressive bonus point win, 26-12.
The pair’s return from retirement and likewise, the appearance of Tom Middlebrook at five-eighth and flanker Jack Allison in the back row, two more absentees of recent times, has given an enormous morale-boost to the club as it strives for its first title in the Kennards Hire Lower Mid North Coast premiership.
Pairing Marchant and Andrews together means “double the danger” for any team this winter.
Women’s Sevens
Adding greater merit to Gloucester’s venture down from the ranges, their women’s sevens team ran in tries freely for a 34-14 success against the Manning River Ratz’ ladies in the curtain-raiser.
Young Gloucester Cockies player, Courtney Whitby shone.
Next Saturday’s (April 14) draw sees the Gloucester Cockies take on Wallamba at Gloucester’s Number One Oval.
