MidCoast Water Services and NSW Health today, Thursday, April 18 renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which ensures the protection of public health in the provision of drinking water, use of recycled water and management of wastewater for the MidCoast local government area (LGA).

The MoU aligns the long term strategic goals of both organisations regarding public health protection, and was signed by MidCoast Water in 2007 in a first for regional NSW.
The renewed agreement, in Forster by MidCoast Council water services director, Brendan Guiney and Hunter New England Public Health director, David Durrheim, formalises the strong working relationship between the two organisations including continuing to liaise with the already established joint strategic group and a joint operational group.
"We are pleased to renew the agreement formally today, which endorses the positive and cooperative relationship we have enjoyed for many years with NSW Health as we work together to provide our community with healthy drinking water," Mr Guiney said.
The MoU refers to plans and protocols for dealing with events of public health significance.
The document facilitates the best approach to drinking water quality management, monitoring and reporting, and working together on emerging public health issues related to drinking water, recycled water and waste water.
The agreement also expresses the intention of both organisations to share information, research and development initiatives on public health issues related to drinking water, recycled water and wastewater.
