Aiden has often volunteered and enjoyed refereeing in our local Summer 6's competition and also our winter competition for the last year or so, gaining experience in a different position on the field than what he is used to. He recently jumped online to Football Mid North Coast to see what he had to do to become an Official Referee.
Aiden had to pass a rigourus online test, a full day face to face theory lesson at Tuncurry followed by a practical component at Taree a few weeks later. His practical test involved him performing the duties of assistant referee (linesman) and centre referee throughout the day in an U12's Gala Day while being assessed, along with others from the same course.
Aiden worked hard all day and was lucky enough to be asked to be centre referee for the grand final match at the end of the day, in which former team mate William Forrester from the successful Drifta team was apart of. Both boys had a great day, with William bagging himself a bundle of goals during his matches, and Aiden being signed off as competent for junior refereeing, gaining Level 4 accreditation.
On Saturday, Aiden officiated his first game as Centre Referee at Gloucester in the 13's match against Taree Wildcats

Gloucester Scorpions Soldiers Club Men's team fought hard in a tough and tumultuous game against the Tuncurry Tigers at their first home game in approximately nineteen years.
Andrew, Darren and Sam built a strong defensive backline, providing a scoreless first half with tensions running over the field. Determination set in among both teams to break the deadlock, but an assist by Tyler from the corner early in the second half aided Corbin to place the Soldiers Club in the lead. A free kick had been awarded to the Tigers near the box by a strong Andrew tackle providing more tension, though was unable to be converted with the ball sailing over the top bar.
Gloucester remained in the lead until the Tigers found an opportunity and slotted one in the net with about five minutes to full time, bringing the final score 1-1. A great outcome for a newly formed team.
Gloucester Soldiers Men's team play at South Street Tuncurry next week in Round 4 against Great Lakes Vikings, kicking off at 12:45.
Close game
Gloucester Drifta 16's played at home against a tough Tuncurry Black team.
Aiden, Cody and Kelly combined well to provide constant pressure on the keeper in the opening minutes of the match, while Isaac put his body on the line during the first half making some fantastic saves. Harrison came into a defensive role, replacing an injured Bailey, Zeke placed us on the scoreboard early on in the second half, followed soon after by Lane.Tension set in among the sideline as scores became locked at 2-2 towards full time, but Tuncurry slotted away two quick goals, bringing full time score to 4-2.
Drifta travel to Tinonee on Saturday, May 5 for a 1:30 kick off.
Manning team
Second game for the season was between Wildcats and Scorpions, Scorpions started well moving the ball around and had a couple of chances at goals by Jack and Jackson that just missed the opening.
Our backs worked well in there defence, coming under pressure several times before the wild cats broke through with 2 goals, from the right hand side, striking the ball high into the top of the goals.
We came out in the second half and with some good lead up work from Jackson and Racheal through the centre, passing the ball to the left and placing it in the right spot for Kyle to drive it into the back of the net, Scorpions first goal for the season.
We also had several other attempts from Jack, Beau, Mitch, Racheal and Sam C hitting the cross bar.
Overall the team has dramatically improved from our first game, We keep up training and keep improving the first win is around the corner.
Division 4
There was a mass of keen little soccer players running around for their first morning of the 2018 season. The morning started at 9am with a training session, which will improve their skills through out the season. 9.30am everyone went into their teams for their games. All the kids had a great time and from the sideline looked like a swarm of bees following the ball of one end of the ground to the other. Some great goals were scored and all the kids had a great morning. See you all next Saturday.

Division 2
Hunter Special Vehicles (white) vs. Gloucester BlueLight (Green) was the first game of the day and saw both teams playing with only five players. With the limited numbers in defence, Brennan and Jake from Green were able to show their fancy footwork and bamboozle the opposition, scoring freely with 6 and 4 goals a piece. They were ably supported by Alyssa, Mia and Shannon working well in defence themselves. Travis had outstanding game for White considering he is relatively new to the round ball. Cody, Oliver and Georgia worked well together and Jess shone with her ‘Never say Die’ attitude. Final score did not reflect the game, 12-0 to Green.
Water and Tipper Hire (Maroon) vs. Lovey’s IGA (red) played next and also played with only 5 players on the field. Both teams showed great passing skills and already are looking at working well together as teams. Bradley, Jo, Xavier and Seth all scored for Maroon and worked the mid field well. Lucas was dominant for Red, scoring 2 goals himself. He was ably supported by Albie, Emily and Felicity. Thanks to the Maroon team for lending an extra player for the game. Final score 8-2 to Maroon.
Gloucester Farmer’s Markets (Yellow) vs. Autolec Gloucester (Dark Blue) was the last game of the day with a fuller field, six players each. Yellow started the game well, passing cleverly between Jethro and Kaitlyn scoring some early goals. Dark Blue fought back well with the speedy footwork of Ruben passing through to Jake to score a couple of goals. Tristan showed he is learning his tackling skills quickly, given this was only his second ever soccer game. Nicholas and Tyler were outstanding for Yellow, always chasing and tackling with the tenacity of bull terriers! Final score 4-2 to Yellow.
