“Everything went like clockwork,” event organiser, Peter Markey said.
The 10th annual event was held on Saturday, May 5 in conjunction with the Vintage Motocross Racing (VMX) competition hosted by the Heaven Vintage Motocross Club, which ran across Saturday and Sunday (May 6).
Visitors to the Gloucester Showground were able to meander around the many exhibitors stall checking out a range of motorcycle gear and equipment, have a feed from rotary’s barbecue or check out what was on offer at the ever-popular swap meet.
Some of the exhibitors have been coming to the expo since its inception and this year brought them a decent level of enquiry and potential future sales.
Peter explained how this year they were able to offer camping under the new diary shed that was officially opened at the Gloucester Show, along with access to the newly upgraded bathrooms which the show society finished in time for the expo.
The expo runs alongside the VMX race which takes place in the showring and makes an excellent backdrop to the event.
Racing kicked off at 10am on Saturday running under the lights until 7pm. Competitors returned to the ring Sunday morning for a 9am start, racing through until 2pm.
Peter said there was around 60 to 70 races all up during the two day event.
Gloucester’s Men Shed members not only manned the gate again this year but volunteered as flag marshals during the races. Gloucester Show Society Auxiliary once again prepared the food for Saturday evening, cooking up around 150 meals ahead of The Bowden Brothers’ performance.
“What’s great about this event is it helps raise funds for several community organisations, not just Rotary,” Peter said.
There were around 100 volunteers lending a helping hand with a range of support provided from various groups around the Gloucester community. Plans for next year’s event are already underway with the date set for Saturday, May 4, 2019.
