P and C treasurer Robyn Beggs said the COLA (covered outdoor learning area) was a long term plan for the committee expected to take up to five years.
“But it was built within 12 months due to the support of funding like the Uniting Church,” she said.
GPS P and C applied for the grants and was one of the three successful recipients, with the church providing $9250 toward the cost of the structure.
The funds from the grant, along with additional assistance of $12,418 from the Federal Government Strong Community Program Round Three, and the P and C the $27,000 project went ahead just before Christmas.
During the school holidays the structure was build and ready in time for the new school year providing a new large covered area to help protect the students from the sun and keep them cool.
