And not just any award but Autopro’s Master Dealer Award, the top honour in the State.
It was a week away in April with his wife, Donna and their children, with a mix of business. There was one day of training, two days of a trade convention and an awards night.
Rodney was representing his Gloucester business, Valley Motors at the award event that hosted around 900 people.
He was a bit surprised when he saw the business name among the awardees.
“When I saw our shop on the big screen, I didn’t know what to think, only that I had good jeans on, not dress pants and no tie,” he smiled.
In the past, Rodney explained that awardees were given a heads up before the big night, so he expect to hear his named called.
“I’ve never won anything before.”
The Master Dealer Award is given to one store in each state based on a combination of purchases, sales and customer satisfaction, including a review of the look of the shop and quality of service by two mystery shoppers.
Rodney has owned the business, which has a automotive service component included with the Autopro retail shop, since 2009.
In 2016, the business undertook an overhaul, opening up the retail store and doubling its floor space, a sound business decision reflected in the award the business has been presented.
“I didn’t expand to get any awards,” Rodney explained. “It was more of a thing to do to try and help the town.”
Rodney may have been the one to collect the award in Singapore, but it was important for him to share the accolades with his staff, Paula Rush and Ryan Andrews.
