A good evening was had by all attending the Gloucester Business Chamber 90th anniversary dinner on May 30 at the Gloucester Bowling Club.

Guest speaker, MidCoast Council mayor David West said he felt at home in our lovely town. He was pleased to advise that further road funding was coming our way and council was looking good for the future.

Past secretary, Terry Carson reminisced about building the road over the mountain to Nowendoc. Terry’s father, Eric Carson, chamber secretary in 1946, had lobbied the Government to build the road to the New England, and ended up building a rough road through, largely at his own expense.

Vic Hebblewhite, Graham Holstein and Ray Twomey spoke about business history and other guests spoke about business history and other guests spoke of living in the Gloucester community.

Members of the community came together to help celebrate the business chamber's milestone anniversary.

Place mats depicting pictures of long term business houses, Gloucester Post Office, Garners, Channells Newagency, Gloucester Pharmacy, Gloucester Advocate, Yates and Twomey, Avon Valley Inn, Gloucester Hotel/Motel (now the Roundabout Inn) and other points of interest were a talking point along with the short black and white film clips and chamber memorabilia of the past.

The chamber thanks Pam Hebblewhite and the historical society, Sandra Twomey, Yvonne Reynolds, Sharee Abeysekera and Mandy Latimore for their combined effort in putting together the information and organizing the evening.
