Gloucester 7s A team
Luckily the rain held off as there was a busy day of soccer to be played. Gloucester A had a great day particularly as we had some new team members. Jarrah Baker was on fire delivering some fabulous goals right from the very first game.
Beau Laurie also landed several goals to keep the other team on their toes. Kane Germon kept the pressure on the other teams forcing lots of errors and earning the ball back for Gloucester on many occasions. Hunter McKinley contributed with some huge kicks moving the ball all the way down the other end of the field and past all the oppositions defence.
Both Max Dellsperger and Josh Stanton provided great defence. On different occasions they both made some tremendous saves.
Scores were Gloucester 2 - 3 Camden Haven Silver, 5 - 0 Camden Haven Sapphires, 3 - 2 Lake Cathie and 0 - 1 Port Stephens Coyotes.
Well done Gloucester boys on a great day of soccer and thanks to all the parents for getting them there!
Gloucester Scorpions 9s
The day started with Thomas Coombe peppering the opposition goal during the first half, unfortunately without result. It was left to Toby Warwick and Bradley Higgins to convert some relentless attack into goals. The second game moved to a new ground were the Scorpions took an early lead and defended for the remainder of the game.
Charlie Bignell was a wall throughout the game stopping anything that came his way. Defensive efforts from Liam Walmsley and Jessica Marchant turned all attacking effort aside and when the final whistle went the score was 1-0 to the Scorpions .
The third game saw another 1-0 win to the Scorpions, with another huge defensive effort from Jali Wilson and Brodie Baker, and midfield work from Matthew Woods saw the team through to the final whistle. The fourth game was a real tough one with the team that beat the scorpions at Wauchope up to extend their winning record.
The Scorpions spent most of the game defending valiantly with shot after shot raining down on Bradley in goal. Jali, Jessica and Liam were awesome and worked together throughout the game to turn the constant attack away. Bradley and Toby combined late which saw Bradley sneak one past the keeper to take the lead.
Unfortunately the opposition struck back almost immediately beating a great effort from Matthew to get the equaliser. 1-1 was the final result.
The final game saw a tired Scorpions return to the small fields, where they met the hosts no1 team and unfortunately 2 early goals in succession caught a very tired Scorpions napping. Although the team rallied and pressed the Redbacks defence, they were unable to get any goals back. A late finish, saw the Redbacks take the win 0-3.
The team continues to improve each time they play together and one of the best plays of the day, combined Thomas to Toby back to Thomas and through to Brodie whose shot on goal was brilliantly saved by the redback keeper.
Great work team, another successful trip away.
