On Thursday July 5, the Gloucester RSL Sub-branch was able to formally thank federal member for Lyne David Gillespie for his support with grant funds that assisted with the purchase of the plaque.
Members gave Dr Gillespie a tour of all the improvements the branch has made around the gardens, showing off the new bench seating, the new flagpoles, the new plaque and spot where the next plaque, commemorating World War I will be installed.
Gloucester Vietnam veterans Tom Yates and John Trudgeon, who were both at the Battle of Coral-Balmoral, feel the plaque finally recognises of their service.
“It’s important to have these moments acknowledged for all the Vietnam veterans,” Mr Trudgeon said.
Both were National Serviceman, chosen to serve by a birthday lottery, who returned to a country protesting their service.
