About 85 people attended Gloucester Rotary’s 68th Changeover Dinner on Tuesday, June 26. President Sam de Witte thanked Rotarians, especially his board, for their hard work and contributions.

This year, Gloucester Rotary completed three major projects: The Fitness Trail, which started in Ray Martin’s presidential year, was completed for about $150,000, through club fundraising and many grants earned by the hard work of Rotarian John Read; The RV Dump Site Project, with Ashleigh Hickman at the helm, with thanks to Midcoast Council for its support and the club which contributed financially; Rotarian Brian Beesley, with the support of Wendy Hughes from the Visitor Information Centre, has lobbied successfully to buy a Motorcycle Only Parking area sign. Motorcycle tourism is a large part of our main street economy.
Donations were presented to: Gloucester Men’s Shed $2000; Westpac Rescue Helicopter $2000; Gloucester Breast Cancer Support Group $2000; Gloucester Prostate Cancer Support Group $2000; Gloucester Charities $500; Destination Gloucester $1000; Bucketts Radio $500; Australian Rotary Health Fund for Indigenous Nurse $2500; RAWCS - Safe Water for Every Child Project $5000; ROMAC $1000; Interplast $3000.
Three Rotarians were presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Award for their contributions to Rotary and the community. Peter Markey received a sapphire Paul Harris pin. Paul Hedditch and Li Meng Wong both received a Paul Harris Fellow certificate and pin.
This year’s president is Ernie Abeysekera and its theme is ‘Be An Inspiration’. Gloucester Rotary meets each Tuesday at the bowling club. The meeting runs from 6.30pm until 8pm with dinner included. Once a month, there is a Rotary Network Night when the meeting is an hour long with dinner optional. See more at rotarygloucester9650.org.au.
