Winners on the day were Graham Turnbull, Paul Mumford and the ever reliable Frank Wells. Runners-up consisted of Kevin Burley and Vic Hebblewhite with more wicks than a worn out lantern. A small field fronted for Saturday open bowls with Chill Out and bull sales occupying players but great bowls were played by all players with the winners being the draw draw draw team of Kevin Burley, Joan Ridgeway and Di Lockwood defeating the team of Graham Turnbull, Nico Duynhoven and George Wisemantel. Sunday was the semi-final of the men's fours with one close match but the other game was all over well before the final whistle.
The Groves boys are becoming regular opponents in championships with Mark, Stacey, Phillip and Wayne defeating Col Linton, Mark Tull, Jason Collins and Peter Jones 22 to 20.
A big comeback in the last few ends could not salvage a win in windy conditions for Col's boys. In the other semi Jason Cassidy, Steve Brown, Craig Yates and Terry Davies defeated Col Hebblewhite, Bruce Wilson, Dicky Baker and Vic Hebblewhite 28 to 21. The pressure showed on the thirds and skips in the losing side when the over confident lead suffered from "jack allergy".
The final will be delayed until Saturday 18 August, to give players time to adjust their blood pressure and should be a closely contested affair. There are still a few spots available for the Blind Solo Bowls on 19th August so get in quick before they go - sheet is on the board.
Women’s bowls
Last Wednesday the Gloucester Lady bowlers Hosted their annual Gala Day with a big field pf 20 teams participating. teams came from as far away as Victoria, Murrurundi, Wauchope as well as many of our district clubs.
We would like to thank our major sponsor Gloucester Tax and Accounting for their very generous support on the day. The first prize was won by Murrurundi with Wingham coming in second and Wauchope taking home the third placing.
It was great to see our visitors rewarded for their travels and their great bowling. The day was a huge success with perfect weather, lots of laughter and a great time was had by all. We also had many non bowlers participating which added to the party atmosphere.
The annual general meeting will be held on the 1st of August with some social bowls being played afterwards.
