Some competitors chose the Gloucester Mountain Tri Challenge for its unique water leg consisting of a kayak down the Barrington River, while many come for the opportunity to compete to such a beautiful setting.
The event, which attracts around 200 competitors, takes place on the second Sunday of September, falling this year on September 9.
To shake things up a bit and offer something new for people who want to give the challenge a go but don’t want to complete all three legs or as part of a team, organisers have introduced the ‘event within the event’.
Running alongside the regular 20.4 kilometre mountain bike ride,10.7 km kayak and a 8.8 km run, competitors can sign up for the individual legs.
Known as the Bucketts Ride, the Barrington Paddle and the Gloucester Run, competitors can chose to take part in one of these sections, which will have varied starting time throughout the day.
But the event isn’t just for visitors, there is a big call out for the Gloucester community and members of the MidCoast region to get involved.
Whether it be as a competitor, taking on the challenge in the local category, either as a junior or senior, or volunteering your time to help out, there’s an option to suit everyone.
One of the event organiser, Gai Falla explained that volunteering can come in a variety of ways from marshaling to helping with the registration of competitors.
Volunteers are needed for a range of locations around the track to help direct and assist competitors which can involve a range of time commitments depending on the location; offering little as a couple of hours to being available the whole day.
During the registration on Saturday September 8, volunteers would be appreciated for as much or as little time as can be offered from 11am. Sunday morning is also an option for helping get the competitors ready to race.
