The dragon boat club is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary and spokesperson Trish Paff says the plan is to bring together past and present paddlers for a celebratory dinner in Taree on October 13.
She says there is much to celebrate and hopes former members will accept the invitation to “share some really good memories and be part of a wonderful club celebration.”
Manning River Dragons formed in August 2008 in response to the decision of Ted and Yvonne Towers to test community interest in dragon boat racing on the Manning River at Taree.
The community responded positively with more than 20 people registering their interest in the sport, and then with the help of Dragon Boats NSW, the club was formed, got its first boat and coaches and sweeps were trained.
Ten years on the club is an established identity in the Manning Valley community, its members have competed at events all over the world, with some members selected to represent Australia in international competition.
Mrs Paff is working to spread the word about the anniversary dinner and hopes all former members will learn of the event on October 13 in the Waterfront Room at The Exchange Hotel in Taree. The dinner will cost $45 and RSVP is by phone to Mrs Paff on 0468 545 934 or by email to david.paff@bigpond.com
