Football Mid North Coast (FMNC) Herald Women’s Premier League (WPL) under 14s team is preparing for the Northern NSW State Championships for Girls after a flawless season of footy.
The team claimed a spot in the event, which will be held in Coffs Harbour from October 3-5, after becoming premiers and grand final victors in the 2018 season.
The side claimed victory through their defeat of Merewether United FC 1-0 at Rockwell Automation Park in Weston on Sunday, August 26.
Before this, the team were runaway season premiers, having secured the premiership at round 17 of 21 and finishing the season 19 points ahead of second placed Merewether United FC.
The side finished the season with 20 wins from 21 season games, 115 season goals scored and only 12 scored against.
“These girls have excited us and enthralled us all season,” coach, Brenton Doyle said after the grand final.
“Even though today nerves at times got the better of them they just didn’t say no, at the end they just kept going like they have all year.”
All three of the FMNC WPL sides, the under 14s, under 17s and under 20s qualified for the final series this season, with the under 20s side defeated in the grand final by Warner’s Bay 0-1 in the 69th minute of the game.
The teams consist of representative players from across the Mid North Coast, from Forster Tuncurry to Kempsey.
