Part of this patchwork is motor shows.
There are hundreds around the nation annually, from large to small, covering every aspect of motoring.
The best show I have struck by quite a large margin is MotorClassica at the Royal Exhibition Centre in Melbourne.
This event is held in October.
The very best cars from all over the world travel to this event.
A range of historic motorcycles is also on show.
Special guest this year will be one of Australia’s only two Formula 1 world champions, Allan Jones.
Formula 1 will be a focus at this year’s show with some wonderful cars on display..
Micro cars will be another feature.
These tiny cars were really a weather shed in the evolution of motoring.
Paul Mathers, who has directed and managed all eight previous MotorClassicas tells me this will be the biggest and best yet.
A big call indeed.
The Royal Exhibition Centre is worth the trip to Melbourne alone.
This beautiful heritage building is in a landscape setting and reflects 18th century style.
A truly beautiful building.
As I said earlier, the best and classiest motor show in the country.
I’ve got a couple of copies of Joel Wakely’s magnificent new book ‘A Passion for Muscle Cars’ to give away.
This coffee table book is valued at $50.
