The year five and six choir students practiced and practiced their Christmas carol medley before they recorded their audition, sent it off to be reviewed and waited patiently for a response.
Now it’s official.
Gloucester Public School’s name is on the list and they are excited!
Twenty one GPS students will spend the next few months learning the songs before taking part in the 2018 Schools Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney’s Olympic Park on Friday November 23 and Saturday November 24.
GPS teacher, Susie McLeod, who will again be joining the students on their journey, said for some of the students attending this year’s performance it will be their second time.
“They know about the long days and amount of practice,” she said. “ And they want to do it all over again.”
The students will be a part of the mass choir that sings throughout the performance. They’re expected to start rehearsals next term with a plan to practice twice a week; once during school hours and the other, after school.
Along with GPS, others students from the region chosen to star in the entertainment extravaganza are from: Forster Public, Great Lakes College (GLC) Tuncurry and Seniors Campuses, Taree High and Wingham High.
They will be joining more than 5,000 stars including 40 Featured Performers, an incredible 100-piece symphony orchestra, stage band, 2,700-voice choir, 2,300 amazing dancers, the D’Arts Ensemble disability program, the Aboriginal Dance Company, puppets and an indispensable behind-the-scenes team.
Creative director, Sonja Sjolander has no doubt the student’s contribution, in this year’s Schools Spectacular will live up to its theme: The Greatest.
“Together as one we shine brighter,” Ms Sjolander said. “That is our greatest strength.
“This year’s show has moment after moment of greatness. There truly is something for everyone; from incredible solo moments to powerful massed forces.”
In addition, to the show, those who come to one or all of the four performances, will also be entertained by SpecFest which presents a carnival of displays, food and talented performances in the area outside the arena.
