At the September meeting members of Gloucester CWA were saddened to hear of the passing of M'Liz Hesford who had been an active member of the branch. A minute's silence in her memory was held at the commencement of the meeting.

The business end of the meeting was quickly attended to with discussions taking place on drought relief, our end of year donations and the sale of our popular produce bags. We have received several donations which will be passed on to our State Office for distribution to those needing drought assistance.
In her cultural segment, Dorothy Kirk related her reminiscences of the two picture theatres in Gloucester. So popular were these there was a bus service from Stroud each Saturday night.
Cookery officer, Ann Mullen supervised the judging of this month's entries and congratulated Sandy Tebbet and Jessie Burley for their Honey Jumbles. Next month's cooking will be Strawberry jam and Pomegranate jelly.
The Gloucester community once again showed their support by purchasing tickets in our annual Hall committee street hamper and winners, Alex Shaw and Trevor Perry were congratulated and thanked.
Orchids being the flora of study this year, at the conclusion of the meeting we travelled to Tinonee Orchid Nursery to learn more about these exotic and beautiful plants. After a picnic lunch, a demonstration of care and potting strategies was given by Ray, the proprietor. Members were overwhelmed by the varieties of this popular plant.
A reminder that Claire Reynolds will be holding a morning tea on Thursday September 27, an opportunity for members and friends to catch up for a chat and enjoy Claire's poetry.
Our annual meeting and election of officers will be on Tuesday October 9 at 10 am. Members are reminded that membership fees will be due.
