This is according to former Gloucester Shire Council mayor John Rosenbaum after member for Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen announced $655,500 has been allocated through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Mr Rosenbaum first raised the need for a new grandstand back in 2015.
“It’s a great outcome for Gloucester where lots of people will benefit from it,” Mr Rosenbaum said.
“I hope it’s just the beginning.”
Mr Rosenbaum said events such as Relay for Life and Carols by Candlelight will benefit from the upgrade.
His vision would be an enhanced New Year’s Eve celebration at the ground and outdoor concerts.
“There are plenty of ideas,” Mr Rosenbaum said.
He thanked all supporters of the project including the State Government, MidCoast Council, Gloucester Rotary Club, Country Rugby League and local churches.
As the oval is home to the Gloucester Magpies and is used for other sports, Mr Rosenbaum hoped funds would be raised in the future for an electronic scoreboard and lighting.
Mr Johnsen said all Gloucester community groups and sports clubs will welcome the upgrades on completion.
“The money for the Gloucester Grandstand will upgrade the grandstand giving Gloucester a profile within the Upper Hunter electorate providing a regional facility for sporting and recreational events. It would also promote community involvement in physical activity,” Mr Johnsen said.
“I congratulate MidCoast Council and look forward to the local sports and community facility improvements that will make the region an even more attractive place to work and raise a family.”
