It was a warm and showery day for 19 Vet golfers in the Cathy and Denver Webb "Thoughts of Bill Radford" trophy day.
The single Stableford competition was won by Bert Newman with an excellent 39 points; runners up were Jim Dunn, Phil Hawkins and guest George Patterson, all on 36 points (which would normally be good enough to win!) and guest Joe Carracoglia on on 34 points. Nearest the pin on the 4/13 was Jim Dunn and on the 6/15 Bill Murray. After the prizes were awarded, Denver recited one of Bill Radford's favourite poems - "The Lion and Albert" by Stanley Holloway, but without the Lancashire accent! - as a tribute to Bill. Our best wishes go to Terry Cox for a speedy recovery after major surgery and we hope to see Terry back on the golf course in the near future.
Next week will be the Dunn/Burnet trophy day, an Irish four ball - could be anything!
Be there to find out.
Col Laurie and Pete Bignell Day
Gloucester Golf Club
On Saturday members played a stableford event for trophies supplied by Col Laurie and Pete Bignell, thanks very much to these two stalwarts of our club for their continued support of our club.
Winners and Runners up on the day were in A grade J Andrews with 37 pts and S Burns with 36, B grade went to R Moore on 38 pts and J Herd with 36 and C grade was won by P Coote with 35 pts and R Paff on 33. The ball comp went down to 34 pts. The NTPs went to B McInnes in A grade, J Herd in B grade with D Barron winning both the C grade NTP and long drive. I won the B grade matchplay final from Bill Murray 3 and 2 and Emu beat Paul in the A grade semi final.
The next few weeks are very busy with a 4 Man Ambrose on Saturday for trophies supplied by Furniture One. Sunday is our annual Open day in which I would like to see more support from our club members as numbers from other clubs are looking very good. Saturday the 10th of November is our presentation night and there will be a sheet on the board for those wanting to attend this week, so catering can be organised.
Don't forget the junior clinics being held every 2nd Sunday, so if you have a youngster keen on golf get them there if you can.
Yours in Golf The Shanker.
