It is with great regret that we report the passing of one of our members, with Terry Cox passing away last week after a short illness. Our sympathies go to his family at this sad time. Last week, an excellent field of 23 played an Irish fourball competition for trophies donated by Jim Dunn and Tony Burnet.
The best team score went to John Clarke, Bob Kirkup, Dale Rabbett and Sally Higgins with 117 points. They were followed by Di Pritchard, Mark Howland, Tony Berecry and Derek Bardwell with 114 points, then Bill Murray, Joost Werz, Ian Maggs and Ric Paff with 112 points. Not surprisingly, Sally Higgins also had the best individual score of 44 points, 8 better than handicap. Sally will need to check her handicap next week !! Nearest the pins went to Di Bardwell on the 4/13th (twice), to Peter Buettel for the men on the 4/13th and to Keith Whitby on the 6/15th. The sponsors were very generous, also giving prises for the longest and "straightest" drives, Mark Howland showed his youth taking the long drive, and Pam Paff had the most accurate drive. Members are reminded that tickets are now available for the Club presentation night on Saturday 10th November.
Arwood Stroke/Medal Rnd
On Saturday members played the monthly stroke/medal rnd for trophies once again kindly supplied by Ron Clarke of Arkwood.
It has been 12 months since Ron died and his family has continued his legacy of supporting our club for which we are very grateful. The winner on the day was S Burns with a very impressive 67, which earned him the monthly mug, B grade went to W Murray with 73 nett and C grade was won by D Bardwell with 70 nett. The best gross score on the day was 75, returned by P Blanch with Bill and Dereck also taking out their respective grades gross as well. The ball comp went down to 74 with the NTPs going to B McInnes in A grade, M Howland won B grade, no one in C grade and Steve won the long drive. This weekend will be a stableford event for trophies supplied by Stuart Carruthers of Betta Home Living. Don't forget our presentation night is also on Saturday night, numbers are fair for the night but it would be good to see more people there to support the winners of our major trophies for 2018. The annual backbar day is also coming on the 2nd of December, with the time sheet being up very shortly so get your team together so you can enjoy this very popular day. Yours in Golf The Shanker!
