On Sunday November 11, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Gloucester Support Group, thanks to the support of the Gloucester Bowling Club, had free rein of the green for the annual fundraiser event.
Under blue skies, around 20 people came out for a social round of bowls with some Gloucester Bowling Club members offering a few tips on how improve their game.
The idea behind barefoot bowls is to encourage anyone to come out and have a go at the sport, by allowing players onto the green without the official playing uniform.
You can take on the sport in bare feet or wear non-bowling shoes, so long as they have flat sloes.
People from all age groups, some from Gloucester and some just visiting, came out to support the group, by playing a game for the cost of $12.
Gloucester’s Jim Whittaker made it a family event, teaching his grandsons, Jacob and Samuel, how to play. Jacob thought the best way to learn was to mimic his grandfather movements to help him learn how to roll the ball.
After the games were over, the group held its annual toy raffle, where a range of Christmas gift ideas where put under the hammer. All proceeds from the day went to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Gloucester Support Group.
