MidCoast Council is looking to work alongside community members to capture the area’s history and is hosting an information session to discuss ideas.
The session is part of a Gloucester Heritage Review currently being undertaken to examine potential future heritage listings, and suggestions are invited for additions to the heritage register.
Information will be available about the Local Heritage Fund for owners of heritage properties to find out more about how the fund can assist financially with a renovation project.
Council calls for applications in March each year and the discussion will help to ensure heritage property owners are ready to apply for next year’s round of funding.
Council’s heritage advisor Lillian Cullen, senior strategic planner Sue Calvin and MidCoast Stories volunteers, Janine Roberts and Penny Teerman will be on hand for the event.
Through the MidCoast Stories website, the community is being encouraged to write about local history and ensure the stories are recorded for future generations.
MidCoast Stories features short, factual and often quirky stories about people, places and events that have influenced the region.
Janine and Penny will available to explain more about the website and offer advice for anyone wanting to contribute.
Gloucester’s history has shaped the town and its surrounds and this information session aims to capture, protect and help restore this local history.
There is no need to RSVP, just drop by the Gloucester council office at 89 King Street, between 10am and noon on November 27 for a coffee and a chat.
