Not only would it be an excuse to hang out on the golf course all day but it was an opportunity to raise money for cancer research.

"Everybody knows someone with cancer,” Brendon said. “It’s a cause that close to everybody.”

So he called up his mate, Paul Blanch to join him in playing 72 holes of golf between dawn and dusk in a single day to help raise money for the Cancer Council.

Paul was in and according to Brendon, Paul’s a much better player.

“He’ll have less hits than me,” Brendon laughed.

The plan is to tee off at 6am on Saturday December 8 at the Gloucester Country Club and continue throughout the day.

The hope is that by starting early, they may be able to avoid the heat of the day, however, considering the average round of 18 holes of golf can take around four hours (with four players) and 72 holes means they need to complete the circuit four times, they are going to be lucky to finish by dusk.

“It should take us 10 to 12 hours,” Brendon reckons. “And we’re hoping it’s not too hot or not too wet.

“Although I would prefer the rain over the heat.”

The Longest Day is an endurance golf challenge designed to test skill, strength and stamina. The challenge is to successfully complete the four rounds of golf in a single day, while raising vital funds for cancer research, prevention, information and support, and advocacy.

“It’ll be a test, that’s for sure,” Brendon said.

But the cause it’s for is worth it.

“Cancer has touched everyone at some point and we would love it if you would join us is helping to find research into finding cures.”
