It was the final blow to a club that was already struggling and it was unable to continue.
Since then, a group of enthusiastic swimmers, assisted by past committee members Ian and Davina Lathwell have managed to reactivate the club which is now once again registered with Swimming NSW and the club is committed to providing a meet each month at Stroud Community Swimming Pool.
The swim club meet, held on Sunday 18 November, was attended by about 50 swimmers, parents and officials. Coach and club president, Michael Abel ran a coaching session before the meet which was attended by about 15 swimmers.
The afternoon was filled with a mixture of fun events and more serious events, with a focus on encouraging participation and learning the rules of competitive swimming in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
Many of the older competitive swimmers were present to provide examples and assist with the running of the event. The swimmers ranged in age from some of the parents, to younger swimmers such as Levi Jenkins, Aden Hirschausen and Emanuel Gray who are junior Dolphins under 7 years of age.
Michael is also focusing on encouraging senior swimmers to ‘give back’ to the club and provide mentoring and example to younger swimmers on how to behave and have fun in a competitive environment.
Belonging to the club means swimmers are part of a team and the monthly swim club meet allows swimmers to interact socially and learn new skills.
Stroud Lions Club attended the meet to provide a generous donation to the club. The Lions Club is keen to encourage and develop local sporting participation and has generously provided financial support to the Seals for the purchase of equipment and uniforms.
Many thanks to volunteers ,such as Barry Jones who assembled the barbecue generously donated by Bunnings, Jane Tatchell who cooked the sausage sizzle, William Bradshaw for starting the races, Xanthe Lee for taking all the photos, Belinda for marhsalling and all the parents for the timekeeping.
Next Stroud Swim Club is scheduled for Sunday December 23 .
