Six years of high school all boiling down to an anxious wait for the HSC and ATAR results, so imagine how it’s feel to have their name on the HSC Honour Roll. For four Gloucester High School students, the news delivered on Thursday, December 13 was just that.
Mia Bowden was listed as a Distinguished Achiever (students who achieve a mark of 90 or above on a subject) for her results in biology, English (advanced), mathematics, mathematics extension 1, and visual arts with an overall ATAR of 97.7.
Also making the Distinguished Achiever list was Laura Dunlop for her results in biology and legal studies, who received an ATAR of 94.85 and Liam Chester for his results in music 1.
Madalyn Bignell not only was listed as a Distinguished Achiever for both hospitality (food and beverage) and primary industries, but her results in primary industries found her ranked fifth in the State, naming her a Top Achiever (students who achieved one of the State's highest places in an HSC course or VET examination and also achieve a result in the highest band).
All four students are thrilled with their results, although some of them were a little shocked.
“I was very surprised when I got my HSC results,” Madalyn said. “I was especially pleased with my primary industries result.”
Mia was also surprised but happy to be rewarded for all the hard work she and her fellow students have put in over the past couple years.
“I’m so proud of my year as a cohort who achieved brilliant results,” Mia said.
GHS principal Trudi Edman is extremely proud of all the achievements.
Of the 36 students sitting the HSC, there were 34 band 5 results from 19 students, as well as the band 6 results.
“In analysing the results, we found a number of students who just missed out on receiving a band 5 result by one mark,” Ms Edman explained.
