But sometimes the weather isn’t favourable for beachgoers
So, where do you go to have swim when the weather is hot but the waves are too hazardous?
The Mid Coast region is full of hidden gems for the whole family to enjoy when looking to spend some time in the water.
Here are a few options:
Northern Broadwater picnic area in Myall Lakes National Park, is situated on the sandy northern shores of Bombah Broadwater, this secluded spot is fringed with majestic paperbarks. With its sheltered shallow waters, its an ideal swimming spot for the little ones and makes for a great family day trip. Just a short drive from Bulahdelah.
Sailing Club picnic area in Booti Booti National Park, south of Forster, it faces away from the ocean, on the shore of Wallis Lake. The lakeside beach is just as sandy, the water just as refreshing, but safe shallow swimming and shady paperbark trees make this a terrific alternative for families and holiday-makers alike.
Smiths Lake Beach is located on the shores of Smiths Lake, south of Forster and is perfect for small toddlers just getting their water confidence. It also provides an area for a picnic and play equipment.
Wingham River Park is located at the end of Farquhar Street adjacent to Wingham Brush Reserve, it gives access to the Manning River.
Tinonee Boat Ramp is located off of Cotton Street behind Horace Dean Memorial Park, provides access to the Manning River.
Andrews Reserve is located at the end of Edinburgh Drive in Taree provides access to the Manning River along with barbecues and a picnic area.
Rocky Crossing Picnic Area is located on Barrington West Road, Barrington provides access to the Barrington River.
