Gloucester has long been a sporting community.

From swimming to soccer, from hockey to horse riding, sport is something that brings the community together.

In order to honour those who have achieved milestones, the Gloucester District Sports Committee holds an annual award ceremony based on nominations from the local sporting clubs.

This year’s Gloucester Sports Awards presentation will be held on Saturday, May 11 to recognise the achievements of Gloucester’s sporting fraternity for 2018.

Nominations are now open for the following categories:

Local Legend,

Hall of Fame, and

Sport Star of the Year.

Sport Star of the Year category includes:

Juniors – 16 years and under,

Seniors – 17 to 34 years,

Veterans – 35 years and upwards,

Teams (any age),

Athlete with a disability,

Coach,

Match official,

Club administrator and

Sporting event of the year.

Each year, the Gloucester District Sports Committee invites a guest speaker to come and entertain and inspire those who attend the event, and this year is no exception. Guest speakers in the past have come from a range of sporting backgrounds including former NRL referee, Mick Stone and world woodchopping championship, David Foster. This year’s speaker will be announced shortly.

Nomination forms are available from committee members or from the Gloucester Visitor Information Centre. Nominations are to be submitted along with a digital image of the nominee as per the instructions on the form. Closing date for nominations is March 25.

Tickets for the event held at Gloucester Soldiers Club go on sale March 18 at EnDee Designs (Furniture One) on Church Street.

Holders of perpetual trophies are asked to return them as soon as possible so that they can be prepared for this year’s awards. These can be left with any committee member or handed directly to John Hughes at Barrington Trophies.
