MidCoast Libraries is helping to foster a love of reading and learning from an early age with its Preschool Storytime program kicking off for 2019.

Both Gloucester and Stroud libraries this regular early literacy program for young children, which offers stories, songs and craft for children aged three to five years.

“Our libraries offer a range of programs to support and encourage the development of literacy skills and a love of reading and learning in children,” MidCoast Council’s Libraries manager, Chris Jones explained.

“The children’s programs are an important part of our library schedule and we love watching all our young readers develop an ongoing relationship with their libraries.”

The program kicked off on Friday, February 8 from 10.30am - 11.30am at Stroud library and will return to Gloucester on Monday, February 18 from 10am - 11am. Each program runs on a weekly basis during the each school term.

“Children love books, stories and music, and Preschool Storytime is specially designed to support parents and carers to nurture this love, and enjoy books and reading with their young children. It also provides a valuable social support network for parents and carers,” Chris added.

These regular early literacy programs are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

It’s a fun and interactive way for parents and carers to be involved in their children’s literacy development and helps to develop a life-long love of learning, reading and books.
