For three days, May 27 to 29, Gloucester will be one of several venues of play for the event which is being hosted by the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club.

Several hundred women will be bowling at clubs around the Lower Mid North Coast region, with 112 players on the green in Gloucester for each day of the carnival.

Gloucester Women's Bowling Club president, Jean Holstein said being chosen as a venue is something they are very proud of.

"It's never been held here before," Jean explained. "We've been trying to be a venue over the years and we were finally successful."

The event runs in two years cycles, meaning Gloucester will be a venue again for next year's competition.

"It's great for the club," Jean said.

Although Gloucester isn't in charge of running the event, there is still a lot to do to get ready, with the club responsible for morning tea and lunch.

"I'll be promoting country cooking by providing home baked sweets," she smiled. "It's a good way to get all the members involved."

For lunch, Jean is calling on the volunteers from the Rookhurst/Gloucester Hospital Auxiliary, as well as asking the men's bowling club members to also provide a hand.

"I've had to call on all my resources," Jean said.

Among the hundreds of players from around the State, 16 will be from Gloucester. There will be two games player per day, the first kicking off just after 9am, once morning tea has been enjoyed. After taking a break for lunch the second game will be underway and is expected to finished up mid afternoon; depending, of course, on the length of the individual games. 

There are plenty of seats for spectators and the club welcomes members of the community to come and enjoy a day out at the Gloucester Bowling Club.
