The challenge is open to teams of six to 10 people to swim 22km (400 laps of a 50m pool) to raise much needed funds for United World Schools (UWS). The inaugural event will see one swimmer in the water swimming or floating at all times until the entire distance is covered or the eight hour time limit has been reached. There is no minimum length required per swimmer and all swim strokes are eligible. Organisers are calling on all swimmers to take the plunge and show their support by creating their own team or simply joining an existing team.
Naomi is a long-time supporter of United World Schools (UWS) - a charity dedicated to working in some of the world's poorest regions giving children access to free education.
"My association with UWS has afforded me a real opportunity to make a real difference," Naomi said. "Education creates hope and with a background in Medical Science & Education, I'm incredibly passionate about providing all children with an education.
"In 2017, I set a goal to not only raise funds to build three schools in three years in Cambodia, but to be hands-on in the design and building process of each school."
Naomi completed a school late last year and now has her sights set on another construction in September thi year.
"The Swim for Schools swim-a-thon will be my key fundraising event, with all funds raised going directly to the education of a further 170 Cambodian children," she explained.
Her aim is to raise $10,000 at the upcoming event with a $40,000 goal for 2019. Get involved by registering as an individual or creating your own team of work colleagues, friends or family. (Team entry is $1,200 or $150 for individuals). Non-swimmers can enjoy the spectacle by dressing to impress to cheer on our swimmers, sponsor a team or donate directly to the cause on the day or via: https://www.naomifindlay.com/swimforschools/
