MidCoast Council has 58 full size playing fields and 26 sporting complexes and crews have been out and about over the past couple of months ensuring all facilities are in order for their busiest time of year.
From hockey and netball, to soccer, football and more, these grounds are used by thousands of MidCoast locals as well as visitors to the region.
"Sport is such an important part of our lifestyle on the MidCoast and we're proud to play a big role in getting the playing surfaces ready for the season each year," council's Dan Aldridge said.
"We've got a great range of grounds and fields across the region, including some first-class facilities that host representative tournaments and are used by people from all over Australia."
It's a huge job to maintain the grounds and MidCoast Council crews also work closely with community and sporting organisations.
"We couldn't do it without them and we're grateful for the relationships we have that help us to serve the community in this way."
From mowing and general maintenance, rubbish cleanup and removal, lighting repairs and much more, preparation for winter sport begins in summer and the upkeep of these council facilities is a year-round responsibility.
The recent rain has been welcomed by crews who are delighted to see the grounds beginning to soften and green, but it has meant some fields are currently closed.
Head to council's website for information on the fields currently out of action for maintenance and this is also where you will find updates on closures during the season should we experience wet conditions: www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Sports-Field-Closures.
