Vice president Gavan Bethke took the chair in the absence of the president, Charlie Faulkner. Gavan presented the president's report stating there were 155 members, including 15 new members and 27 courses staged at four different venues. He thanked all the committee members and other volunteer workers saying that, without them, U3A would be unable to provide Gloucester with such a wide range of different group activities.
Looking to the future, Gavan highlighted some of the plans for this year, including improving the facilities at the citizens' centre by installing an audio/visual system with a hearing loop. He stressed that funding such a project was a major consideration and acknowledged the support being provided by the MidCoast Council to help source and apply for financial grants, as well as the input from GACCI, being the other major user of the centre.
Gavan concluded his report by announcing the committee would focus on enacting a calendar of social events, so that members would have more opportunities to get together as a whole. He cited the success of last year's 10th anniversary and Christmas functions and how they demonstrated value to members.
Committee members elected for 2019/20 are: president Gavan Bethke; vice president Charlie Faulkner; secretary Shirley Smith; treasurer Danny Green; public officer Danny Green; enrolment officer/membership Frances Writer; members without portfolio Robert Sparke, Jennifer Shaw, Sue Urby.
The meeting closed with a reminder that term tow will run from Monday May 6 to Friday July 5. Enrolments are at the Uniting Church Hall on Monday, April 29 from 10am to noon with morning tea provided with new members warmly welcomed.
