Barrington Public School's Selina Denyer shares her story about trying out for the Hunter regional team.

My hockey journey

A couple of weeks ago, I travelled to the Manning Valley Hockey Fields in Taree to try out for the PSSA individual zone hockey team. A few other Gloucester players also tried out.

They were only selecting 11 girls to go through to the regional try outs, which made it challenging.

I successfully got through to the regional try outs, as did the other Gloucester girls.

This meant we became part of the Manning Hockey Team to represent the region in the State.

On the day of the regional trials, I travelled down to Newcastle to try out.

There were many more girls trying out down there, and a lot of skilled players. The trials went on for longer, as well as being harder.

First, I had to do some drills for about 20-30 minutes and then I had a break before playing two games of hockey. The selectors had a look at each player and chose two teams out of all of us.

I was selected into one of the teams for sorting called the Probables and Possibles. We played for 15 minutes each half and as we played the selectors were making their choices.

After the game was over we found out who was in the Hunter Regional Team and I got in!

Emily Beggs from Gloucester Public School also got through. I am now going to train with this team in Newcastle and will soon be trying out for State PSSA Hockey in Newcastle.
