After having lived her whole life in Gloucester, she has made the move to Newcastle for the sport she loves.
Having accumulated a long list of accomplishments in basketball over the years, the opportunity to play for the Newcastle Hunters was an opportunity not to be missed.
So, this year's Jess changed schools and made a commitment to the big orange ball.
Now in year 11 at St Francis Xavier Hamilton, the 16-year-old is currently playing with the Hunters in both the under 18s and as a senior in the youth league.
"Most weeks I train every day although this sometimes may change as I juggle school work," Jess said.
In September last year, Jess was once again named as part of the U18 Country State basketball squad which was due to play in the Under-18 Championships and Kevin Coombs Cup from April 13 to 20 in Townsville.
To gain selection into the team, Jess had to compete at the Australian Junior Championships, where multiple trial camps were held, with a cut made every time. From this, a team of 15 was chosen, with Jess being named as a point guard.
"I have done a lot of my own personal training in order to be chosen for this team," Jess said.
"This competition is the most important for anyone who wants to represent their State. As a junior it is one of the most significant opportunities given to play against and with the best players in Australia."
This is the second time Jess has played in this completion, although she has represented NSW Country on multiple occasions.
"After this completion, I will continue my training routine in order to gain selection into the NSW U20s State team in 2020 and 2021," she explained.
Her ultimate goal is to play professionally in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL), while studying at university.
"Being my final year of juniors, I have a full year ahead of me with lots of basketball especially as my U18s Newcastle Hunters team aims to win the State championship later on in the year."
