People interested in the conservation of the endangered Manning River turtle will be converging on Wingham on Thursday, June 6 for a two-day workshop.

Day one of the workshop, from 12.45pm to 6.30pm, is open for any interested community members to attend. This open information session will consist of talks from stakeholders on the work being done to save the species as well as the Bellinger River turtle and Bell's turtle.
The Manning River Turtle Workshop is being hosted by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), with experts in the field of turtle conservation and research, plus local organisations, researchers and ecologists presenting.
The program for the Thursday afternoon session is broadly arranged as follows:

- 13:00 - 13:30 Outline and background information - Andrew Steed, OEH
- 13:30 - 14:30 Ecology of Short-necked Turtle - Arthur Georges, James Van Dyke, Ricky Spencer
- 14:30 - 15:30 Survey Information 2018-2019 - Bruce Chessman, Darren Fielder, Phil Spark
- 15:30 - 15:45 Afternoon tea
- 15:45 - 16:45 Land Management - Reegan Walker, Karen Bettink, Lyn Booth, Bruce Robertson
- 16:45 - 17:30 Bellinger River Turtle - Gerry McGilvray, Kirsten Petrov
- 17:30 - 18:30 Bell's Turtle: Turtles Forever - Marty Dillon, Brad Nesbitt, Lou Streeting
Please arrive at 12.30pm so the session can start on time.
The event continues on Friday to workshop strategies in how best to manage Manning River turtle conservation, however this portion of the workshop will not be open to the public. In attendance will be representatives of the Manning River Turtle Conservation Group, OEH, Local Land Services, Manning Landcare, researchers and ecologists, other turtle conservation groups, MidCoast Council, and the Australian Reptile Park.
The Manning River Turtle Workshop is being held at the Uniting Church, 39 Farquhar Street, Wingham.
